Brief description: Strategic Resources are seeking a Package (Rigid Pipeline) Engineer for their client in Westhill.

Full description:

To coordinate fabrication, and component purchasing activities related to subsea rigid pipelines. Acts as the interface coordinator between the Project Management Team, Firing Line Engineering team, Spoolbase operations team, and any third party on aspects related to pipeline fabrication. Coordinates and/or produces purchasing specifications for rigid pipeline and ancillary items.

Job scope

Coordinate all aspects of pre-production engineering. This includes, but is not limited to, the following elements:

  • Ensuring that spoolbase scope of work is issued and agreed between stakeholders;
  • Ensuring that scheduling for pre-production works are aligned between stakeholders;
  • Organisation of interface meetings between key stakeholders (PMT, Client, Spoolbase, etc.) during the pre-production phase;
  • Interface on pre-production stage documentation;
  • Coordination with spoolbase of engineering specific details on fabrication methodology statements;
  • Ensure timely delivery and Production of key fabrication drawings such as flange pup pieces or stalk sheets;
  • Coordination of client queries and comments during the pre-production phase;
  • Organisation of the pre-production meeting, jointly with the spoolbase coordinator, to ensure a smooth transition towards the production phase of the project.

  • Technical Coordination of purchasing key rigid pipeline components and ancillaries, in-line with the requirements of the project. This aspect of the role includes, but is not limited to
  • Interaction with the design team and Centre of Expertise CoE to ensure that the purchase technical specifications are adequate;
  • Interaction with the global procurement organisation, the supplier, and the contracts team to further progress the purchase of items while ensuring technical consistency across projects and realising any opportunities in terms of cost or schedule, together with the global procurement organisation;
  • Follow up of delivery of items at the defined and agreed location and within agreed schedules;
  • In some instances, organisation of relevant qualification programs to demonstrate the applicability of a given product to the project requirement;
  • Assurance of the client’s acceptance of the items;
  • Verification of product specific installation/application procedures at the spoolbase or offshore, in coordination with the relevant spoolbase or vessel delivery team personnel.
  • Site visits or onsite technical support may at times be required.

Site visits to the relevant client spoolbase or onsite visits to vendor facilities may at times be required, but the role is primarily office based.


Relevant project QA/QC experience


Additional post-graduate qualification(s) in subsea or pipeline related engineering.
Holding a degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
Significant relevant project engineering experience.

Technical understanding and experience of rigid pipeline design, fabrication and/or deployment;
Operational or tendering experience;
Good awareness / experience of interaction with other domain of execution of a SURF scope.

Main accountabilities:

  • Within the context of a project, the Package Responsible Engineer is expected to assist the Lead Rigid Pipeline Engineer in coordinating, on behalf of the project team, all aspects associated with rigid pipeline pre-production activities. This implies coordination of all deliverables with all relevant stake-holders in the pre-production phase. The relevant tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Assistance with coordination and definition of the rigid pipelines MTO and associated production documentation;
  • Detailed definition and implementation of the fabrication strategy on a rigid pipelines project;
  • Writing of scope of work and request for quotation documents, including any associated technical documentation;
  • Technical review of supplier offers, and or coordination of technical review by technical experts;
  • Coordination of procurement and fabrication of the rigid pipeline scope.

Depending of the size of on-going scopes, the Package Responsible Engineer may be expected to follow up more than one project or tender at any one time.

The Package Responsible Engineer will be accountable towards the Project Team supported.

The Package Responsible Engineer may at times be temporarily assigned to other aspects of the rigid pipeline discipline, which may include site visits or offshore time as required.
