NEL, a division of TUV SUD Ltd in the UK, is an international provider of specialist technical consultancy, research, development, testing and measurement services with an excellent reputation built up over 50 years. We deliver to customers from a range of industries including Oil & Gas, Renewable & Sustainable Energy, and Government. We also have a unique responsibility as the UK National Measurement Institute for Flow.

Following a recent investment to extend our world leading facilities to include a Centre of Excellence for Multiphase Flow, we now have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Rig Pipefitter. Within this position a background in best practice mechanical engineering with a strong focus on Heath & Safety is expected.

Applicants must be able to work an alternating pattern of early and back shifts, and occasional night shift cover.

Responsibilities and authority:
  • Installation, removal and safe operation of clients’ equipment such as flow meters, valves, pumps etc
  • Manoeuvring and positioning heavy items of plant using overhead cranes, fork lift trucks and other lifting devices
  • Identifying and selecting the correct equipment and parts for the allocated tasks
  • Maintaining fixed mechanical equipment such as valves and pumps in accordance with the planned preventative maintenance schedule
  • Ensure all maintenance records associated with the role are maintained and updated
  • Actively participate in the Company’s Quality, H&S and Environmental Programmes
  • Respond to out of hours emergencies as required
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to undertake additional duties as may be required by the business from time to time, as directed by the Line Manager

Education and Experience:
  • Educated to ONC level or equivalent in an engineering discipline and having served a recognised apprenticeship. Candidates without a relevant qualification will be considered provided they are able to demonstrate the appropriate skills, competencies and experience.

Essential:
  • Competent and experienced with slinging and lifting operations
  • Current fork lift truck licence
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player and able to build good working relationships.
  • IT literate, including the use of spreadsheets, databases and general IT software.
  • Flexible, reliable and self motivated.
  • Able to work safely on own initiative with the minimum of supervision

Desirable:
  • A basic knowledge of metrology and traceability of secondary instrumentation.
  • Driving licence.
  • Experience in a similar role.
