NEL, a division of TUV SUD Ltd in the UK, is an international provider of technical consultancy, R&D, testing and measurement services with an excellent reputation built up over 50 years. We deliver to customers from a range of industries including Oil & Gas, Renewable & Sustainable Energy, Water and Government. We are part of the UKs National Measurement System, holding the standards for Flow and Density, and conduct ongoing Government funded research to that is aligned to, and driving, the UKs Industrial Strategy.

We are currently looking to recruit for an R&D Lead for the Oil & Gas area to lead and/or oversee all research projects. The role will require strong technical leadership and direction of R&D projects, with responsibility for technical outputs, largely in the form of reports, as well as line management of staff. You will also work more broadly across the organisation as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to deliver a range of projects across all industry sectors, but most especially oil & gas.

The role will be based at our facilities in East Kilbride, and the candidate must have the ability to work in the UK and be able to travel when required. The role will suit someone who wants to follow a managerial career track and likes to work on complex projects with a 1 - 3 year horizon providing technical and staff leadership, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of research.

Essential requirements for the candidate
  • A good first degree in a relevant discipline
  • Significant experience in the Oil and Gas sector, with at least some knowledge of flow metering
  • A demonstrated track record of leading technical staff and teams
  • Be able to demonstrate experience of delivering work on time and within budget
  • The ability work on both theoretical and practical aspects of technical work, demonstrated by tangible examples
  • Be happy working in a distributed, multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Be a highly motivated, self-starter

Advantageous requirements for the candidate
  • PhD in engineering or a related discipline
  • Significant experience of flow metering, flow assurance, custody transfer and/or allocation
  • Experience of working on industrial projects within a R&D environment
  • A track record of conference presentations, academic publications and/or patents
