NEL, a division of TUV SUD Ltd in the UK, is an international provider of technical consultancy, R&D, testing and measurement services with an excellent reputation built up over 50 years.  We deliver to customers from a range of industries including Oil & Gas, Renewable & Sustainable Energy, Water and Government. We are part of the UK’s National Measurement System, holding the standards for Flow and Density, and conduct ongoing Government funded research to that is aligned to, and driving, the UK’s Industrial Strategy.

We are currently looking to recruit for a number of positions to help transform the use of data and digital technologies within the business and the services we offer across all industry sectors.  As such, we are looking for a Project Engineer to drive better exploitation of the vast data reserves within our business, and the businesses of our customers.  The development of new services based upon data science and digital technologies is a key priority.  You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to deliver a range of projects across all industry sectors, but most especially oil & gas.

The role will be based at our facilities in East Kilbride, and the candidate must have the ability to work in the UK and be able to travel when required. The role will suit someone who is a self-starter, enjoys working in multi-disciplinary teams on complex problems and has a passion for finding answers to difficult questions from complex data.

Essential requirements for the candidate:

•    A PhD in statistics or closely related field, along with a good first degree in a relevant discipline
•    Willing to develop into a Subject Matter Expert in this field
•    A solid understanding of statistical methods
•    Experience of programming in a number of different languages
•    Be able to demonstrate the ability to collate, cleanse and analyse large data sets using state-of-the-art techniques
•    Have experience modelling systems using open source and commercial software
•    Be happy working in a distributed, multi-disciplinary team environment
•    Be a highly motivated self-starter

Advantageous requirements for the candidate:

•    Experience of working on industrial projects within a R&D environment
•    Be able to demonstrate experience of delivering work on time and within budget
•    Experience with optimisation and deep learning methods
•    Knowledge of the oil & gas sector
