Oceaneering were delighted to hold another open day for Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) enthusiasts and students involved in the 2016 MATE ROV Competition.

The Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center is a national partnership of organisations working to improve marine technical education and in this way help to prepare America’s future workforce for ocean occupations.

With over 50 keen enthusiasts and students attending, the day kicked off with a brief welcome and presentation to Oceaneering’s facility in Aberdeen. What excites people to take part in this event is the hands on experience offered and the opportunity to pilot an ROV in test tank conditions as well as navigate through challenges on the ROV training simulator, experiences which would otherwise be limited to those already in the industry or training to become an ROV Pilot.

Peter Buchanan ROV Manager UK and Europe: "It was great to have such a good turnout despite the weather conditions trying to disrupt the days plans! The level of interest /aptitude and promise displayed by all students in attendance is extremely encouraging for the industries’ future and the development of local talent. Not only were we pleasantly surprised with the level of piloting skills on display, but also the interest shown in engineering, ROV components and technologies".

Aberdeen Sea Cadets: "First class event. The cadets had a fantastic time and got a lot out of the visit. Many thanks to all the staff for taking the time to show us around”.

Mintlaw Academy: "Great all round experience and we controlled an actual ROV! The presentation was detailed and gave us a good insight into the ROV industry”.

Oceaneering have strongly supported the MATE competition since its inception many years ago and are exceptionally proud to be associated with the competition and support its participants. It is fantastic to see such an interest in the ROV industry.
