Last month, IHC Engineering Business, the Pipe-lay, Cable-lay and Subsea Technology specialist, part of Royal IHC, said thank you to their suppliers for recent work completed on a major project.
The event saw 22 representatives from participating companies travel to Rotterdam in the Netherlands where they were presented with one of the completed flex lay towers of which they have produced various components.
Attendees were invited on board the Sapura Ônix Vessel docked at Europe's biggest port and given the opportunity to climb the 48 meter tower.

Supplier of the Control Cabins that operate the tower, Demko, said "It was very impressive and interesting to see what good workmanship can accomplish” Dirk-Jan Schriek Demko Metaalconstructies B.V.
The Sapura Ônix is one of five identical 550t capacity pipe-lay vessels that have been completely designed, engineered and built by IHC.
The system comprises of a twin-tensioner tilting lay tower, flexible product storage in two below-deck baskets and support equipment for the spooling and routing of products. The tower, produced by IHC EB, allows for maximum open deck space, while utilising a high capacity 615 tonne abandonment and recovery (A&R) system and a secondary lower capacity 200 tonne A&R system for increased operational flexibility. A custom-designed control system integrates each aspect of the pipe-lay spread to ensure excellent performance, safety and reliability.
"The presentation and walk round on board to see how all the fabrications fit together and lets you appreciate the complexity of the work IHC Engineering Business supply to the Oil and Gas industry”  John Spence of Metal Fabrications.
