A north-east charity that supports individuals with learning disabilities and additional support needs will be backed by energy industry equipment manufacturer and service provider Flowline Specialists for the next 18 months.

Inspire, which is based on Aberdeen’s Beach Boulevard and delivers services across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray, will be the nominated charity of the Oldmeldrum-headquartered firm until 31 March 2016. During the long-term partnership Flowline Specialists staff will be raising money for Inspire and volunteering their time to support its work.

The first fundraising initiative Flowline staff took on in aid of Inspire was the charity’s annual Bonfire Night firewalk. Four staff – Chris Hannay, Laura Michie, Sam Shearer, and Nick Wells – hot footed it across the 500°C coals along with 65 other fundraisers ahead of Aberdeen’s annual firework display.

Over the course of the year staff will also undertake a skydive and be part of Inspire’s team of runners at the Baker Hughes 10k and Beast Race. In addition to fundraising and volunteering, Flowline Specialists has agreed to use the charity’s handmade Inspire Soaps in its offices and as corporate gifts over the next 18 months.

Inspire was chosen as Flowline Specialists’ charity after employees were asked to nominate local charities and then voted on the short listed suggestions. The charity provides more than 50 services – including residential care, supported accommodation, training for employment initiatives and respite care – throughout Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

Flowline Specialists’ managing director Jim Smith said: "We’ve supported a number of charities and local community projects over recent years, but decided to focus on one charity for the next 18 months that our whole business could really get behind. Inspire does tremendous and valuable work helping individuals across the north-east who have learning difficulties and additional support needs, and Flowline Specialists is extremely pleased to be partnering them.

"Our staff are looking forward to taking on some challenges that they may not otherwise have done to support the charity. I know our four fearless firewalkers have provided the team with plenty of inspiration. It is great that we are able to go beyond fundraising and volunteering to support Inspire by utilising the products and services produced through its social enterprise initiatives. It really helps to build a strong partnership between our organisations.”

Duncan Peter, business development manager at Inspire added: "We are delighted that the team at Flowline Specialists has committed to supporting our work for the next 18 months and look forward to working closely with them to ensure this partnership is a real success for both parties.”
