DOF Subsea UK Raise £6,000 for CLAN

18 December 2012

Local charity CLAN Cancer Support is on top of the world after receiving a donation of over £6,000, thanks to the spirit and adventure of two of DOF Subsea UK employee’s and the company’s financial support.

Kevin Gaffney, Survey Tendering Manager at the Aberdeen-based subsea operations support company, successfully completed the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon in Norway. The triathlon consisted of swimming for 3 miles, cycling for 112 miles and running for 27 miles, the total distance was 142 miles which took Kevin 15 hours and twenty minutes to complete.

"Completing the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon was an ambition I’d had for a long time and it made sense to use the opportunity to raise money for a good cause and put something back into the community,” says Kevin, who raised funds through company sponsorship, and private donations from colleagues, friends and family.

"Although the triathlon was tough at times, the sense of personal achievement and satisfaction I felt when I reached the finish line soon made me forget about my aching body!”

Tracey Luty, Accounts Payable Controller also raised funds for CLAN by completing a 10,000 feet tandem skydive.

"I have completed skydives before but I have never jumped as high as 10,000 feet as I am not a big fan of heights but the fact that this was for such a fantastic cause it was worth it!” says Tracey, who raised funds through company sponsorship, and private donations from colleagues, friends and family.

DOF Subsea UK believes that supporting employees’ fundraising efforts brings benefits to both the company and the local community.

Jan-Kristian Haukeland, EVP of DOF Subsea Atlantic says; "We’re delighted to have been able to contribute to CLAN’s exceptional work in the local community, while also recognising Kevin and Tracey’s commitment, dedication and motivation.”

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s Fundraising Manager, says, "We are very grateful for the efforts of Kevin and Tracey. What they did was extremely impressive and the money raised will aid us in continuing to provide comfort, support and information to anyone affected by cancer.”
