Targeting Net Zero: The Energy Transition - How can UK-China Business accelerate this together?

Targeting Net Zero: The Energy Transition - How can UK-China Business accelerate this together?

16 September 2021
Venue: Webinar

Climate change is forcing cities and regions around the world to face up to an inevitable energy transition. Nowhere is the need for this more evident than in what might be described as ‘Energy Cities’, whose economic fabric has for decades relied heavily upon growth in conventional thermal energy sources such as coal and oil. They are often among the most carbon-intensive regions of the world and where the greatest savings and reductions can be made. The UK and China have several regions of this nature and the ability to facilitate their transition to more sustainable models of economic activity is a priority for both local and central government.

The first half of this webinar will explore examples from Wood, Aberdeen City and bp China of how such decarbonisation can and is taking place through partnership in China and the UK. They will look at the adoption of hydrogen, re-skilling of the existing workforce, and switching of fuel infrastructure among other themes through presentations followed by a panel discussion.

The second half of the webinar will focus on the first letter in Wood’s SCORE methodology for Decarbonisation: S for Substitution. The broadscale adoption of clean energies in favour of their fossil-fired predecessors is at the heart of being able to bring about lower emissions on an industrial scale and in the last few years several of China’s biggest gencos have been making moves in the European Offshore Wind space in response to greater demand for green energy. KPMG and SDIC will discuss the OSW market between the UK and China and what its role will be in the Energy Transition moving forwards.
