GLOBAL UNDERWATER HUB


The Global Underwater Hub (GUH) is being established by Subsea UK to transform the globally competitive underwater industry in the UK. To be formally launched later in 2021, the GUH will help accelerate the transition to net-zero, driving innovation and growth and making a step-change in the development and internationalisation of technology and services.

Driven and led by industry, with funding from both Scottish and UK governments, the GUH will build on Subsea UK’s rich heritage and depth of knowledge, contacts and services with enhanced resources to help all those involved in the underwater space access the strategic market intelligence and connections to grow the value that exists in all those companies and organisations.

The GUH will achieve this by:

  • Facilitating multidisciplinary collaborations between companies, sectors, government, industry bodies, institutions and academia
  • Promoting cross-fertilisation of innovative underwater solutions which will help the shift to low carbon and deliver outputs which are greater than the sum of their parts
  • Better connecting the different bodies, institutions and companies with the market opportunities to deliver the underwater solutions of the future.

ROLE DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS

The strategic direction and performance of Subsea UK is overseen by a diverse board comprising representatives from industry and observers representing key stakeholders from government. For 18 years the board has been led by a Chair, supported by senior representatives from industry who shape strategy and govern performance. Subsea UK is looking for a new Chair to help take the organisation on the next stage of its journey, as it evolves into the GUH.

We are looking for a highly respected leader who has previous not-for-profit board experience and knowledge of the underwater industry across the UK and internationally. The new Chair will have the skills and experience to steer the organisation into the future and enable the board to contribute effectively to the organisations expanded remit and ambitious growth targets.

This role will suit an individual who is an experienced Non-Executive Director/Trustee and who is already an established Chairperson.

The appointment will be for an initial term of three years.

We anticipate a time commitment of approximately 2 days per month and not more than 24 days per annum to cover the following core activities:
  • Preparation for attendance at quarterly board meetings (8 days)
  • Preparation for attendance at the Company’s AGM (2 days)
  • Hosting stakeholder meetings and attendance at events (4 days)
  • Strategic advice to the CEO (10 days).

It is important that the Chair is able to visit the Subsea UK/GUH offices across the UK, attend member events and meet with employees.
