SAIC (the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre) works to transform Scottish aquaculture by unlocking sustainable growth through innovation excellence. In the third of SAIC’s three-part webinar series, Sarah Riddle (Director of Business Engagement) and Sam Houston (Funding Manager) will look at the environment and its interaction with the industry’s aspiration for sustainable growth.

Sarah Riddle, Director of Business Engagement

Sarah brings more than 17 years’ experience to her role as SAIC’s Director of Business Engagement, having previously worked at Scottish Sea Farms and Aquascot. Sarah has also provided strategic support for organisations such as the Scottish Association of Marine Science, and has helped many businesses to secure funding and deliver innovation, research and development projects in the aquaculture sector. As Director of Business Engagement, Sarah leads a programme to support SAIC’s £10 million Phase II strategy.


Sam Houston, Funding Manager

Sam has a broad knowledge of aquaculture and marine biology from seven years of study: an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology from Plymouth University and an MSc in Sustainable Aquaculture from the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling. With a PhD from University of Stirling in fish nutrition, Sam joined SAIC initially as a Project Support Officer and is now Funding Manger. Sam engages with industry, academia and stakeholders to develop and maintain SAIC’s project portfolio, all with the aim of driving and sharing innovation for the benefit of Scottish aquaculture. His interests span sea lice management, production technology, and sources of external funding.
