KW Designed Solutions were invited to the official opening of the Balmoral Offshore Engineering’s (BOE) Subsea Test Facility in Aberdeen earlier this month.

The Aberdeen-based provider of deep water buoyancy, insulation and elastomer products all of which are designed, manufactured and tested in Aberdeen, celebrated the conclusion of its two-year £20m investment which includes a significant number of KW Designed Solutions pressure testing systems including the innovative Manual Chock Closure Pressure Vessels capable of operating at pressure from 530 bar to 700 bar with a diameter of 0.5 metres and an internal depth of 2.5 metres.

Also operating at the facility is the KW Designed Solutions Actuated Chock Closure Pressure Vessel capable of simulating pressures of 475 bar with an internal diameter of 1.8 metres and an internal depth of 7.2 metres. Most of the pressure vessels are installed underground meaning access is at ground level making handling much easier and safer. Many of the pressure vessels provided feature automated pressure and temperature control systems with pre-defined programmable functions capable of testing in accordance with industry standard specifications.

Mark Henderson KW Designed Solutions Ltd, said: "Working extremely hard and closely with the engineers at Balmoral over the years has enabled us to produce some very innovative pressure testing equipment capable of carrying out as many processes for Balmoral’s in-house product testing from product concept to material development, testing and realisation. We’re immensely proud of our achievements and association with the Balmoral Subsea Test Centre and wish the industry-leading facility every success in the future."
