Aker Solutions Eyes Asia-Pacific Contracts

Norway-based Aker Solutions Sdn Bhd is vying for projects worth between US$50 million and US$500 million each in Asia Pacific.

Its president (subsea Asia Pacific), Dave Hutchinson, said the value of the project would depend on the scope of supply and the quantity.

The company, which started operations in Malaysia in 1998, provides engineering and construction, technology products, execution, service and integrated solutions for the oil and gas as well as the processing industries.

Its US$100 million high-technology subsea manufacturing facility at the Port Klang Free Zone, which is the centre of its Asia-Pacific operation, was set up in 2007.

He said the facility was expected to rake in US$750 million in contracts annually.

"We are comfortable if we can sustain approximately US$750 million a year from this facility," he told reporters here today.

Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and Crown Princess Mette-Marit visited the facility on Wednesday.

Hutchinson said Aker planned to expand its operations here.

He said the company, which has 1,100 workers currently, planned to add another 25 per cent within 18 months.
